On the first Sunday in May, the voters of Canton Glarus meet in the open air on the Zaunplatz to decide cantonal matters by show of hands. On the same day, the town holds its traditional Landsgemeinde market. About 150 stalls line the central streets, selling textiles, toys, jewellery, crafts and food.
