On the first Tuesday of December, Herisau hosts its historic Klausmarkt. Over 120 market stalls line the Obstmarkt and Kasernenplatz with authentic Appenzeller craft goods, hand-carved wooden toys, traditional Chlausebiber, regional cheeses, and children's carousel rides.
