Basler Fasnacht is Switzerland's largest carnival and is on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage. It starts with the Morgestraich, when the city switches off its lights and groups march through the old town with lit lanterns, fifes and drums. For three days, costumed cliques and Guggenmusik bands fill the streets.
