Vogel Gryff is Kleinbasel's biggest traditional holiday. The Wild Maa floats down the Rhine on a raft, and then he, the griffin (Vogel Gryff) and the lion (Leu) walk through the streets of Kleinbasel, stopping again and again to perform their ritual dances. One of the dances takes place on the Mittlere Brücke, where by tradition the figures turn their backs on Grossbasel.
