Around Altdorf's historic Tellplatz, where William Tell's monument stands, the Urner Klausumzug gathers hundreds of bell-ringers and lantern-bearers. Masterfully crafted illuminated bishop mitres ('Iffelen') glow in the night while whip-crackers and Samichlaus parade through the capital of Canton Uri.
