Switzerland's most untamed and captivating winter tradition. Between Candlemas and Shrove Tuesday, masked figures known as Tschäggättä roam the snow-bound villages of the Lötschental wearing fearsome hand-carved stone pine masks, animal skins, and clattering cowbells around their waists.
